For the last seven years, UM has hosted an annual conference on Undergraduate Research, graciously sponsored by the Vice President for Research and the Provost. UMCUR is a great event and opportunity for students, especially in courses or other educational activities where they engage in research or creative activities that could yield a substantive public presentation.
The day-long conference offers opportunities for students from across campus to make poster presentations, research presentations, exhibits, and original creative works. In addition, students can organize panel presentations, where students within or across disciplines coordinate papers and roundtable discussions over certain themes. For example, students from Chemistry, Geology, Wildlife Biology, and Forestry could organize a panel discussion on "Environmental Restoration and the Milltown Dam;" students in a women's studies class might collaborate with the Women's Center to organize a session on "Women's Activism."
Awards for the top papers and the top posters will be made in five different areas:
As in years past, UMCUR will be presented on the UM Campus.
It is our intention to accommodate everyone who wishes to participate. The Committee on Undergraduate Research will offer training sessions designed to help interested students prepare for their presentations/posters prior to the conference.
The deadline for submitting proposals is
Submissions must be online.
Here is the list of award recipients at the 2009 UMCUR Conference. Each award recipient was honored in the Mansfield Library undergraduate research exhibition and received a $100 gift certificate to the UM Bookstore.
