Annual Meeting

UM Conference on Undergraduate Research Friday, April 17, 2009 Submission Deadline – February 27, 2009

UM Conference on Undergraduate Research
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

(poster, research, and panel presentations; exhibits; and original creative work)

Eligibility:

• UMCUR is designed to highlight the original scholarly and creative activity of UM undergraduate students. Participation is open to all UM students in good standing.
• Students receiving financial awards through the Davidson Honors College must present the results of their work within the academic year of the award. UMCUR provides an excellent opportunity to satisfy that contractual requirement.

Application Process:

• Submissions may be made for a paper, original creative work, poster, or panel session.
• To apply, students must complete the Submission Application (online).
• Abstracts must include the following (as applicable to your field):
  1. purpose (thesis or rationale)
  2. significance (contribution to your field and/or to society)
  3. originality
  4. method
  These abstracts are unique to this presentation (they should not be the abstract prepared as part of the DHC award application). Sample abstracts.
• Watkins Scholars must have their mentor approve their abstract.
• UMCUR attracts an interdisciplinary audience. Your intentions must be communicated in a manner that is understandable to that audience.

Awards:

• The Committee on Undergraduate Research will present $100 awards for the top oral and poster presentations in each of the five research categories (Fine Arts, Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences).
