The biology department’s web site provides information about undergraduate opportunities.

The chemistry department’s web site provides information about undergraduate research positions under the undergraduate program heading.

Research opportunities in the math department. Under the undergraduates guide to the study of mathematics there is a link under the 6 th heading labeled Internships and Research experience, click here.

Find information of the opportunities within the philosophy department. From links there is a student resources heading with undergraduate journals, conferences and contests link click here for information.

Links for undergraduate research are located under students, opportunities and faculty on the Davidson’s Honors College web site.

The following are labs, offices and agencies that may have research opportunities available. While they might not list a job opening, it’s worthwhile to explore these websites to learn what types of work are being done. If something interests you, go talk to the people doing the work! There may be opportunities that are not advertised on the website.

College of Forestry and Conservation. This page explains some of the research that the College of Forestry and Conservation is conducting.

Bee Alert. Miners once carried canaries to warn of toxic gases. We use bees and portable computers to assess environmental hazards through the development of electronic hives, toxicological models, extensive databases, and pattern-recognizing software that help assess risks posed by metals, radiation, biologicals, and chemicals, including industrial, military, and agricultural (pesticides) materials. The goal is the early identification of environmental threats so corrective action can take place before further harm occurs. The challenge is to identify cause and effect for contaminant exposure while recognizing the influence of other variables such as mites, bee diseases, and management practices. Real-time monitoring of colony activities and conditions is an integral part of this effort.

The Center is responsible for conducting research, teaching, and community service. The primary research mission of the Center is to advance knowledge of environmental impacts on human health. Postdoctoral fellows, graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate researchers are always welcome to apply.

This research project is striving to maintain the current state of experimental wetlands and assessment of seasonal treatment performance for defined wastewater in the western Montana climatic region during the Waste Water Treatment Plant’s (WWTP) Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) upgrade and generate data from a third seasonal cycle for contribution to the regional clearinghouse and database from which communities can access design, maintenance, and performance characteristics of constructed wetlands for wastewater.

The national Joint Fire Sciences Program (JFSP) was created in 1998 to promote research aimed at reducing hazard and mitigating wildfire impacts. In 2000, the JFSP funded a five-year nationwide study of hazard reduction treatments called the Fire/Fire Surrogates (FFS) Project. The objectives of this interdisciplinary project are to evaluate the effects of prescribed burning and/or thinning (i.e., "fire/fire surrogate" treatments) on wildfire hazard reduction, tree growth and mortality, timber product recovery, native and exotic plants, soil chemical and biophysical properties, small mammal and bird populations, and bark beetle and root disease dynamics.

Research opportunities through the Native American Center of Excellence (NACOE) can be found here.

While many scientists conduct research relevant to wilderness, the Leopold Institute is the only Federal research group entirely focused on wilderness.

The Wilderness Institute strives to further the understanding of wilderness and its stewardship through education, outreach, and scholarship. The Wilderness Institute provides scholarships for research.
