Presidential Leadership Scholarships

The Presidential Leadership Scholarships are The University of Montana's premier academic scholarships, recognizing outstanding talent, academic performance, leadership, and contribution to the community. These awards are renewable for four years, subject to satisfactory performance by the student. Each scholarship includes a full or partial tuition waiver, the value of which varies according to the amount of tuition each year. Approximately 24 awards will be made in each annual competition. Their approximate value each year, including the tuition waiver, will be:

Gold level: $7,500 stipend plus a tuition waiver valued at approximately $4,400

Silver level: $5,000 stipend plus a tuition waiver valued at approximately $4,400

Eligibility: All applicants for admission to the Davidson Honors College will be considered for the Presidential Leadership Scholarship. Eligible candidates for the Presidential Leadership Scholarship must be recent high school graduates who have not previously enrolled as a regular college or university student. Finalists in the autumn 2012 class of Presidential Leadership Scholars posted an average of 3.97 GPA, SAT combined score of 2070, or ACT composite score of 32.

To be eligible for a Presidential Leadership Scholarship, the DHC application deadline is December 31.

The Watkins Scholarship

The Watkins Scholarship Program generally awards $2,000 to ten seniors per year, and is open to all UM-Missoula students. All applicants must anticipate attaining senior status (at least 90 credits) by autumn semester of the scholarship award period; have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher at the time of application; plan on working on a senior research project or creative activity that will be directed by a faculty member in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The annual application deadline is April 15 for scholarships to be awarded in the next academic year. Specific information can be found by downloading the application below. All students who complete a research project funded by a Watkins Scholarship are required to submit an electronic copy of their thesis or final research paper to the Davidson Honors College, using the following template as a formatting guide.

Undergraduate Student/Faculty Research Awards

Undergraduate Research Awards will support up to ten student/faculty research teams. These awards are open to any undergraduate at The University of Montana-Missoula. Each successful student applicant will receive an undergraduate research scholarship of $500 per semester and each student/faculty team will receive up to an additional $500 to cover expenses related to their research activities (the purchase of books or materials, student travel, etc.). The program is intended to provide selected students (sophomores through seniors) the opportunity to spend the academic year apprenticing with a faculty mentor; learning from and assisting with faculty research activity; and planning, developing, and carrying out his or her own undergraduate research project with the guidance of that faculty mentor.

The annual application deadlines are April 15 for full-year scholarships and October 29 for spring-semester scholarships. Boileau Study Abroad Scholarships

The Davidson Honors College offers the Violet M. Boileau Study Abroad Scholarships of up to $500. Funds are available for Spanish majors or minors who intend to participate in a study abroad program in Spain or Latin America. Only Davidson Honors College students are eligible for these awards. The Boileau Scholarships are based primarily upon merit, but also on need, and preference will be given to upper division students. Application deadline: April 15 (for summer or autumn semester) and November 27 (for wintersession or spring semester).  To apply for this scholarship, download and submit the Boileau Study Abroad Scholarship Application below.

Dailey Study Abroad Scholarships

The University of Montana offers two Dailey Study Abroad Scholarships of $1,500 in support of a full-year study abroad program in a country where English is not commonly spoken. All undergraduates at The University of Montana-Missoula are eligible to apply; preference shall be given to individuals born in Montana. The application deadline is March 15 for the following academic year.

The Jane Buttrey Memorial Scholarship

The Davidson Honors College awards up to ten Jane Buttrey Memorial Scholarships each year to outstanding Juniors who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need. These awards typically range in value from $1,000 to $1,500.  This scholarship is open to all University of Montana-Missoula students who meet the scholarship criteria.  All applicants must attain Junior status (60-90 credits) by autumn semester of their scholarship year; major or minor in the humanities or social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences; have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 at the time of application; and demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  The application deadline is March 15 each year for scholarships to be awarded in the following academic year.  To apply for this scholarship, download and submit the Jane Buttrey Memorial Scholarship Application below.
