YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE DHC APPLICATION IN ONE SESSION

Please read the information below before you begin, and have the relevant information available to enter and upload.

In order to complete this application, you'll need to provide:

1. Basic biographical information
2. Information about your academic background and achievements
3. An electronic copy of your unofficial transcript(s)
4. A short statement about your academic interests: What major(s) or academic area(s) of interest do you plan to pursue at the University of Montana? What interests you about that field of study? What are your future career goals and other professional aspirations? Limit your statement to 300 words, maximum.
5. A brief essay of 600-1,000 words on one of the following topics:
Topic 1: Describe an event in your life, a person, a book, or an experience (choose one) that has had a profound effect on you. How has it influenced change in you, your attitudes, and/or your goals?
OR
Topic 2: What does leadership mean to you? What is the most inspiring example of leadership that you have witnessed? Why was this example of leadership so inspiring, and what have you learned from it?

Special note: Our application also requires that you submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor. We prefer that you provide us with your teacher's email address so that we can request the letter directly from them. If that is not possible, you can have your teacher send us a hard copy of their letter by following the instructions found within this application.

All applications to the Davidson Honors College that are completed by December 2nd, 2016 will be considered for the Presidential Leadership Scholarship. Applications received after December 2nd, 2016 will be considered for admission to the Davidson Honors College, but not for the Presidential Leadership Scholarship. 

Students applying for admission to the Davidson Honors College should show clear evidence of academic talent, leadership, and motivation. Generally, a high school GPA of 3.5 is expected, as well as an ACT composite score of 27. For students who took the SAT exam before 2016, we generally expect a composite score of 1800. For students who took the SAT in 2016, we generally expect a competitive score of 1270 or higher (Reading and Writing + Math). These criteria are not absolute, however, and all highly motivated students are encouraged to apply. 

Applications are especially welcome from non-traditional students, international students, veterans, and students from varied racial and ethnic backgrounds. 
College transfer students and currently enrolled students at the University of Montana with a record of strong academic performance are likewise welcome to apply. 

Deadline: Applications to the Davidson Honors College submitted by December 2nd, 2016, will be considered for the Presidential Leadership Scholarship. Applications submitted after December 2nd, 2016 will be considered for admission to the Davidson Honors College, but not for the Presidential Leader Scholarship. Davidson Honors College applications will be considered only from those who have applied for admission to a four-year undergraduate program at The University of Montana.

Special Notes on the Presidential Leadership Scholarship

 The Presidential Leadership Scholarships are the University of Montana's premier academic scholarships, recognizing outstanding talent, academic performance and contribution to the community. These awards are renewable for four years, subject to satisfactory performance by the student. 

Every Presidential Leadership Scholar receives an annual stipend ($7,500 per year for a Gold PLS and $5,000 per year for a Silver PLS). Additionally, Presidential Leadership Scholars will receive a substantial tuition discount or waiver (depending on residency status). Resident students receive a full tuition waiver. Non-resident students who receive the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship have their tuition discounted as WUE Scholars. Non-resident students who do not receive WUE Scholarships receive a tuition discount equivalent to the in-state tuition rate (currently $4,373). 

Presidential Leadership Scholarship Award Summary

For Montana residents:

Gold Level: $7,500 stipend plus a tuition waiver valued at approximately $4,373 per year
Silver Level: $5,000 stipend plus a tuition waiver valued at approximately $4,373 per year

For non-residents receiving a Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship:

Gold Level: $7,500 stipend and WUE Scholarship 
Silver Level: $5,000 stipend and WUE Scholarship 

For non-residents from a non-Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) state:

Gold Level: $7,500 stipend plus a tuition waiver valued at approximately $4,373
Silver Level: $5,000 stipend plus a tuition waiver valued at approximately $4,373

Finalists for the Presidential Leadership Scholarship will be selected from applications received by December 2nd, 2016. Finalists will be notified of their status by the first week in January, and will then be invited to interview with a Presidential Leadership Scholarship Committee member by phone or in person during our Presidential Leadership Scholars event on Friday, February 3rd, 2017.
