Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

"Everybody can be great, because everyone can serve." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a day in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. The Office for Civic Engagement organizes activities for volunteers at different locations in the Missoula area.  College and high school students, as well as other volunteers, travel to different community agencies in the area to assist staff with daily projects.  Most recently, the sites across the city have been "named" in honor of individuals memorialized on the "Extra Mile" monument in Washington, D.C.  This day of service introduces students to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s spirit of giving and non-violence and includes a reflection period with guest speakers following the work sessions.

In the past, students of all ages, from elementary school to the university level, have met at different organizations across town to participate in fun and educational activities that will spark their interest in diversity, history, and peaceful conflict resolution practice. The activities emphasize the importance of cooperation and acceptance.  Please call 243-5531 for more information.
