Global Youth Service Day
Global Youth Service Day (NYSD) seeks to call attention to the contributions that young people make in their communities on a daily basis. On this day, young people across the world design and implement their own service projects specific to their cities and towns.
The goals of GYSD are: to mobilize youth to identify and address the needs of their communities through service, to support youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and to educate the public, the media, and policymakers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.
Volunteer activites have included: a Food Walk-a-Thon to benefit the Missoula Food Bank, a Youth-Read-To-Youth event, emphasizing the importance of literacy and education at the Missoula Public Library, a mural painting that was donated to special needs children, a letter writing campaign to troops stationed overseas, a beautification/recycling project, a Clark Fork River clean-up, and a restoration project at the Moon-Randolph Homestead in Missoula.
