Campus Corps

The Office for Civic Engagement offers many entry points for students and community members to participate in AmeriCorps national service programs. Campus Corps is an AmeriCorps program that actively engages members in meeting community-identified needs through meaningful service. Students may choose to participate in either the Service Team Campus Corps Program or the Service Learning Campus Corps program.

Campus Corps Service Team

The Campus Corps AmeriCorps Program is a statewide AmeriCorps program found on 12 college campuses across Montana.  Campus Corps Service Team members are college students who serve 450 hours over one academic year (approximately 12 hours per week during the academic year).  Members serve on campus and with nonprofit community organizations to develop and implement service programs and increase volunteerism.  Program partners in Missoula have included: Missoula County Public Schools, the YWCA, and the Watershed Education Network.  Members are typically responsible for recruiting additional student volunteers for their programs, sustaining their programs, and advertising and developing the program.  Campus Corps Service Team members receive a living stipend and an AmeriCorps Education Award and are based out of the OCE, utilizing office resources for their programs. Student Campus Corps members may receive academic credit for their service learning activities.  Service Team members are recruited over the summer for the following fall.

If you are a recent graduate or taking time off from school, consider applying for the full-time Campus Corps Service Team or Service Learning Leader positions.  The Team Leaders work at the OCE and supervise all Campus Corps members.  Leaders serve 1,700 hours over one year.  Recruitment for the Team Leader positions generally begins each spring.  For more information, please contact Colleen Kane at 243-5128 or at colleen.kane@mso.umt.edu.

Full-time Campus Corps members are eligible for the ALIVE Program, which offers members the chance to earn graduate level credit from UM during their year of service.

Campus Corps Service Learning

The Service Learning Campus Corps AmeriCorps program is designed to help community agencies meet broad-based direct service needs of their organization while enhancing the academic experience of Service Learning Campus Corps AmeriCorps members serving 300 or 450 hour terms.  Service Learning Campus Corps members must be UM students and able to make strong connections between their service and the learning taking place through their academic coursework.  Members serve their hours over the course of the academic year at the host agency and spend their term addressing a specific direct service issue at the organization.

Service Learning Campus Corps members are rewarded with an education award of $1000 to $1250 upon successful completion of their term.  Members do not receive AmeriCorps living stipends.  Service Learning Campus Corps members may receive academic credit for their service learning activities.
